In a nutshell, what the “3 Tier Pricing” does is put every credit card transaction into one of the three categories mention above. Unless of course you’re a merchant processing as a MOTO merchant account then you only have a Qualified Rate and Non Qualified rate. MOTO stands for “Mail Order / Telephone Order”. MasterCard and Visa actually have over a dozen different rate categories which is called Interchange.
By pricing the merchant account based on the “Interchange Plus” pricing model, there will be extra savings generated, because the “3 Tier Pricing” model frequently defaults to the highest “Mid-Qualified” and/or “Non-Qualified” MasterCard and/or Visa interchange rate.
